Seaway Surge Renew Commitment To Host 2021 And 2022 Ontario Bantam ‘AA’ Championship

One of Canada’s largest amateur baseball tournaments is set to be held in Leeds-Grenville this summer, and next.

The Seaway Surge Baseball Club has formally renewed its pledge to host the 2021 and 2022 Ontario Bantam AA Championship.

Director of Communications Chris Warren says the club is excited to be hosting an event of this magnitude.

“So we’re expecting nine of the best ‘AA’ teams coming to Eastern Ontario,” Warren said. “This is the first time a Baseball Ontario championship has come here, so, we’re excited to host it and bring that level of baseball to the community.”

Provincials were cancelled last year due to COVID-19, but Warren says it’s full-speed ahead for this year and for 2022.

He says the event will have a very beneficial impact on not only the baseball community, but also the local economy.

“Particularly businesses in the service and hospitality industries, our hotels and our restaurants,” Warren said. “So, hopefully, as long as public health allows, we’ll be able to have these nine teams, their players, and their families, shopping in town, eating at local restaurants, staying at local hotels and putting that money back into the community.”
