The Kemptville office of Service Ontario will be closing on February 23rd, 2017. After that, clients in Kemptville will have to travel to Brockville, Winchester or Ottawa if they need in-person services. The government is hoping more people will access online services instead. This may be difficult for seniors and those with limited access to or knowledge of computers.
OPSEU Local President Allen Bibby says employees in Kemptville are in shock after receiving pink slips earlier this week, as they did not see it coming.
Bibby says the closure is fallout from the government’s decision to privatize its services.
The government made significant improvements to the Kemptville location in recent years.
Kemptville is just one of nine Service Ontario offices that will be closing, all on different dates.
