Man charged with smuggling a gun across border at Prescott

A Mississippi man is facing charges after trying to smuggle a gun across the border at Prescott. The Canada Border Services announced yesterday that on April 22nd, the 31-year-old man followed his GPS into Canada en route to Chicago. He was driving a commercial vehicle. At the first inspection he reported no firearms or other weapons. On a second inspection, officers found a loaded semi-automatic gun in his vehicle. They seized the gun and arrested the driver.

He is charged with non-report of goods, making false statements, smuggling, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless transportation of a firearm and possession of a loaded, restricted firearm. He was released from custody and scheduled to appear in a Brockville courtroom later this month.
