UCDSB Supporting Province’s Decision To Delay In-Person Learning

The Upper Canada District School Board is reacting to the province’s decision to continue remote learning until January 25.

The province made the announcement Thursday, and while the local board wants to see students back in school, it supports the government’s decision to stay vigilant, slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep students and staff safe.

“We need to ensure that we continue with daily screening for symptoms and follow public health protocols that are in place if we want to slow this virus,” Director of Education Stephen Sliwa said in a statement.

With the news, here’s how the UCDSB’s remote learning process breaks down:

  • Elementary students who were enrolled in in-person learning prior to the winter break will continue in online learning.
  • Elementary students studying asynchronously with non-digital resources will be able to pick up materials early next week and you should receive information from your school about the pick-up process over the next couple of days.
  • Elementary students studying in the asynchronous digital model prior to the winter break will not see any change to their current learning model or practices.
  • Secondary students will continue with remote learning plans that were put in place this week.

There are also plans to support students with special education needs through Individualized Education Plans.

Supports that were available to students during in-person learning will continue for students learning remotely.

The board is also using a phased approach to support students who require more intensive support.

If you have any questions, you should reach out to your school or teacher directly.
