Health Unit Advising Residents To Stay Committed To Public Health Restrictions Amid Lockdown

With the province-wide lockdown coming into place on Boxing Day, the local health unit is letting residents know how they can reduce the risk of COVID-19.

Because the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit lies south of Sudbury, lockdown measures will be in place from December 26-January 23.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paula Stewart says since the start of the pandemic, the community has been committed to following public health precautions.

“This has made a difference,” she said. “Let’s continue with this same commitment during the next four weeks as we respond to the added restrictions. We have been here before in March and April, and managed by helping each other. Supporting our local business with on-line service and pick-up will help them survive this challenging time.”

Outdoor recreational amenities are open with physical distancing required while lockers and change rooms will be closed, and there will be no team sports if physical distancing is not possible.

The Health Unit says indoor organized social gatherings beyond the household are prohibited – while outdoor events and gatherings are limited to 10 people with physical distancing.

Meanwhile, weddings, funerals, and other religious services are able to have a maximum of 10 people indoors or outdoors and it is recommended these events are held virtually.

Restaurants and bars can only provide takeout or curbside pickup, while stores selling food and pharmacies are open with 50 percent capacity and physical distancing.

Personal care services are closed.

The health unit reminds residents to self isolate if you’re experiencing symptoms, wear a mask or face covering in enclosed public spaces or when physical distance is not possible.

You should also avoid touching your face, maintain 2 metres from people not from your household, wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds and cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
