A number of organizations in Prescott are getting a boost from the town.

Council met Monday where they unanimously voted to approve $30,000 in COVID-19 Grants to four non-profit groups.

The organizations include the local Lion’s Club – receiving $5,000; the Curling Centre – receiving $10,000; the Lawn Bowling Club will get $1,000; and the local Legion is receiving $14,000.

The grant program was approved in November and was advertised on the town’s social media platforms.

In order to qualify for the funding, the groups had to meet certain criteria, including being a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency, or an organized, unincorporated, or non-profit organization.

These organizations rely on memberships and donations for the majority of their revenue which have decreased in 2020 due to COVID-19.

They also have fixed costs for this year in excess of the donations and memberships that have been received – which include rent, utilities, and insurance equipment leases.

The town says the funding should be dispersed to these organizations by January 31, 2021.
