Light Up the Night Christmas Parade cancelled in Prescott

The Prescott Fire Department (PFD) has announced the 2020 Light Up the Night Christmas Parade is cancelled in Prescott due to COVID-19.

The Fire Department says this is the first time in 67 years the parade will not be happening. The parade was to take place on November 20th this year.

“With an expected crowd of over 10,000 people lining the Fort Town streets to celebrate over 100 floats and bands, the PFD parade committee made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the 2020 edition, with public health and safety surrounding COVID-19 regulations guidelines at the forefront of their announcement.”

Chris Veltkamp, parade Co-Chair, says it is extremely unfortunate they had to make this decision but their focus and commitment has always been the safety and well-being of the community.

Mayor Brett Todd says while they are disappointed, everyone at the town stands behind the PFD as they make the only possible decision.

“Public health and safety have to be paramount as COVID-19 is still with us. But with that said, the fire department is working with the town on alternative ways to help celebrate Christmas. So, while the holiday season will be different this year, we will all do our best to provide some Christmas cheer here in the Fort Town this December.”

The PFD thanks everyone for their understanding.
