South Grenville Food Bank starting to see increase in clients

The South Grenville Food Bank is starting to see an increase in clients.

Executive Director Bonnie Pidgeon Cougler says last week in Prescott, there were 99 people who had accessed the food bank in three days. She says they are expecting an increase to continue and have been anticipating this happening.

Cougler explains a lot of people losing their jobs or increased hours and programming like the CERB coming to an end has an impact.

“It’s really important to know, no matter if we get a second wave, we’re always here. The food bank is always going to be here to help the community when needed.”

Cougler says because of the pandemic they now do deliveries twice a month. She says a lot of people they are delivering to are seniors.

“We’re really opening up our doors to making it easier and more accessible for people that are stuck in their homes, whether it’s a disability, whether they’re seniors, whether (they) just really can’t get out because of the pandemic.”

People needing deliveries can contact the food bank.

She says money donations often go towards buying perishable foods and items that they could use are hamburger helper, peanut butter, salmon and tuna. Cash or cheque donations are accepted at the food bank in Prescott or an e-Transfer can be done through [email protected].
