This spring, be wise and don’t attract the bears

The province of Ontario and the OPP are reminding residents to take simple precautions this spring to prevent attracting black bears coming out of hibernation. When natural food sources are scarce, bears will look elsewhere for easy pickings like garbage and bird feed.

Remember to store your garbage with tight-fitting lids and don’t put it out before the morning of pickup. Clean your barbecue grill after use, including the grease trap below. Keep your dogs on a leash and put away your bird feeders. If you see a bear you can contact the 24/7 Bear Reporting Line(1-866-514-2327). If it’s an emergency, call 9-1-1.
