From October 19th through the 23rd, Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario is recognizing School Bus Safety Week. General Manager and CEO Ron Cotnam says ensuring the safety of students as they enter or exit the bus is crucial. Bus drivers undergo continuous safety training but motorists also need to be patient and supportive as children are getting on and off the bus.
In Ontario, over 800,000 children and teenagers ride safely, in over 18,000 school buses, each day. Studies show that school buses are the safest method for transporting young people – up to 22 times safer than passenger cars. Bus operators throughout the region will be conducting contests and promotions in conjunction with local schools in support of School Bus Safety Week. For more information, head to www.steo.ca
