COVID-19 positive case at Kemptville’s Holy Cross Catholic School

There is a positive case of COVID-19 in a Kemptville school.  A letter was sent to parents of students at Holy Cross Catholic School on Sunday (Sept. 20th) from the Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit.  In the letter, it did not say whether it was a student or staff that had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

A statement was provided to MyPrescottNow.com from the Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Paula Stewart, “The Health Unit is very pleased with the quick response by the CDSBEO to our request for information about contacts in the school. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and are in contact with, and have isolated, all students and staff who have had a high-risk exposure contact and are available to answer parent’s questions.”

However, the statement did not say how many students and staff were identified as high-risk and are now in isolation. When asked for clarification a spokesperson for the health unit said they would not be releasing that information. A high-risk contact is defined as a person who has been in the same area as the positive individual, and was within 2 metres (six feet) for a period of time.

A letter was also sent to parents if their child was at low-risk or not at risk.  Low-risk means the child may have been in the same area as the infected person and was not within 2 metres (six feet) of the positive individual.  Not at risk means they did not have any exposure to the positive individual.

Students who were deemed low-risk or not at risk can still go to school.

The Health Unit also encouraged students who were at school on September, 14th, 15th, and 16th to monitor for symptoms carefully.  Parents are also reminded to complete the COVID-19 Screening Tool that can be found here
