Centennial 67′ to receive grant from Port of Johnstown for new playground

Centennial 67′ Public School will be receiving a $15,000 grant from the Port of Johnstown.

Sabrina Winchester, Chair of the Centennial ’67 Parent Council, says they have been doing a playground upgrade fundraiser. Winchester says they’ve purchased three play structures, a dome, an obstacle course structure and a play-mobile car. The cost is between $25,000 and $26,000.

The play structures have already been installed as Winchester explains the school board were already resurfacing the school yard.

“They put in a whole new parking lot, a bus turn around, a whole new front entrance so they were going to move our current play structures anyway. So they said if you’re able to raise enough money to purchase play structures we will pay for your resurfacing fees.”

The school has had multiple fundraisers for the structures last year. Winchester estimates they have reached their fundraising goal but due to COVID-19 they are still waiting to hear the total amount they now have for the structures.
