Spencerville Fair competition deadline is this Saturday

The 165th annual Spencerville Fair is going virtual this year, so the deadline to take part in a competition is this Saturday.

Eric Connell, one of the Executive Directors, says the fair is still happening on September 10th to the 13th, but you will not have to go to the fairgrounds.

Connell says they are planning on having a lot of the competitions and shows livestreamed throughout the weekend.

“Our fair was really created to help educate and bring together the urban and rural communities and so even on this virtual edition, we will be striving to do the same thing.”

Connell says they will have their competition shows: baby show, talent show, junior work and pet show. They’ve also been able to put together their first virtual livestock open youth show, sheep show and dairy goat show. The virtual fair will also include a fruits, apiary-honey and eggs and roots and vegetables competition. Connell says for all the crafty folks they do have the fine arts and photography, culinary arts, flowers, fancy work, lawn decorations and senior citizens competition.

Connell explains for the lawn decoration competition all you have to do is get together with your family and build a scarecrow on your lawn.

The virtual platform will also still have a mammoth pumpkin stake which has a pre-registration date of August 28th. Connell says all of the competition deadlines are this Saturday (August 22nd).

“We understand at the fair that it’s not the fall season and we’re a fall fair, but to do this virtual fair we do have to push a little bit for an early date so we can get all the judging done and announce the winners during the fair time.”

There is no exhibitor fee this year, Connell says they removed that because they don’t have any entry gates and the fair this year is something to get the community to look forward to. All of the prize money has been sponsored and donated to the fair to give prize money away.
