New CDSBEO program supports Crown Ward students’ success

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario has set in motion a new initiative to assist vulnerable students who are wards of the Crown. The Board reports students in the Children’s Aid system are among the highest needs students who often struggle academically and have a higher dropout rate provincially.

The new program, which has been adopted by a school in Cornwall, includes a focus on mental health and resilience and the creation of portfolios where students set their own goals and monitor their own progress.

Overall, the program has led to improved attendance among the group members, who have also achieved 93 percent of their credits.
