OPP: “Bring the gear, not the beer” for a safe boating season

As the weather warms up, boaters in Eastern Ontario prepare to hit the water. The Ontario Provincial Police want to remind you of a number of things before you head out.

First of all, you need to do a complete check of your boat and equipment. Make sure it weathered the winter well and is seaworthy. Here’s a handy checklist:

Secondly, ensure all of the life jackets, first aid kit and other equipment is back on board and in good shape for the season. Finally, review government safety regulations for boating:

Inspector Paul Bedard, Manager East Region Traffic and Marine says “Whether you are at the cottage, cruising, fishing, or paddling, we all have a role to play to ensure our time on the water is safe and enjoyable for everyone. Take the booze out of boating to travel safely and enjoy the season.”
