Local teacher painting murals in downtown Prescott

A Prescott high school art teacher is painting murals in town.

Christine Sloan says she was approached by a local resident who said she would love to bring a little bit of life to downtown Prescott. The resident had the idea to create murals and ask landlords if they would like to have one done.

Sloan says the Prescott Strong painting is to remind the town that we’re all in this together and it features the Canadian Coast Guard’s Griffon, the lighthouse and Fort Wellington.

“Having a sunny, kind of, centre focus was the big thing, because I wanted everybody to remember that even though there’s darkness, there’s always light that will bring us up.”

The building’s owners Ashley and Josee Davies gave permission for the project to happen on the property and Sloan says more paintings are planned.

Sloan says they are contacting a few landlords and are hoping to create some free murals on paper.

Anyone interested in getting a painting done can contact Sloan at 613-349-5322.
