BGH restricting visitors, suggests ways to keep connected virtually

The Brockville General Hospital (BGH) has restricted visitors to minimize risk of COVID-19 to patients and healthcare workers.

In a media release, the hospital offers suggestions so people can keep in contact without having to visit in person.

The first option is a phone call. People can locate a patient by calling 613-345-5649.

Patients are encouraged to bring a smartphone, tablet or other device. The hospital asks that people ensure the device is clearly labeled with the patient’s name on it, has updated contacts, has a charger and headphones with a microphone with the device and uses a case that can be wiped clean for infection protection.

BGH also encourages virtual visits with video apps like FaceTime, Messenger and Skype. The hospital offers all patients’ access to their tablet library and free guest Wi-Fi. They also have a Patient Engagement and Experience Specialist who may be available to support your loved one make a virtual call if assistance is required.

To request a virtual visit, email [email protected] or call the Patient Engagement and Experience Specialist at 613-345-5649 extension 1784. BGH asks that you leave a detailed message if you are calling. Virtual visits are only available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The hospital is not accepting deliveries of food or care packages, like gifts or flowers, to maintain a safe environment. If a patient has left an important personal device at home, like eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, personal inhalers or a cell phone that is required for safe care, the care team will contact a family member with instructions on how to safely deliver the item to the hospital.
