Homelessness Prevention Benefit supporting households in Leeds and Grenville

Low-income households in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville may be eligible for the Homelessness Prevention Benefit (HPB).

The HPB supports households experiencing homelessness in Leeds and Grenville, including the Town of Prescott and the City of Brockville.

The program is to obtain and maintain suitable housing and to support those at risk of homelessness to remain housed. Funding is provided by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Ontario.

According to the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, households are only eligible once in a 24 month period and HPB granted must sufficiently address the risk of homelessness and the resolution must be sustainable for at least two years. Households currently experiencing homelessness may get assistance for last month’s rent deposit and/or utility hook-up fees.  Households at risk of homelessness may be eligible for rent and utility arrears to help them stay housed in their current place if the household can reasonably maintain their housing for the next two years.

Other resources like the Winter Warmth and/or Low-Income Energy Assistance Program and negotiating a repayment agreement for arrears owed must have been pursued.

Items that do not qualify for funding through the HPB include:

clothing, moving and storage, household items, furniture and appliances, home repairs, mortgage arrears and property taxes.

The HPB application form can be found here.
