Brockville City Council has proclaimed a community emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council passed a resolution yesterday stressing the seriousness of the pandemic and the vital importance of continuing all measures possible to mitigate the spread of the virus within the community, according to a media release. Those measures include hand washing, physical distancing, staying home and only going out when essential for groceries, prescriptions or doctor’s appointment.
Mayor Jason Baker says although Brockville City Council continues to manage the City’s operations and response to COVID-19 without declaring a state of emergency, they do recognize the need to ensure their citizens appreciate the gravity of the situation.
“Making this proclamation delivers this much needed public message while continuing to allow us to position the City to react effectively to the ever-changing crisis. City Council continues to have complete faith in our current structure and the staff and organizations we have access to at this time.”
The City says they continue to closely monitor all of their continuing services to ensure both the safety of citizens and staff.
