Audrey Hopkinson was a dedicated mother, adored by her family and colleagues, according to friend Maria Huttinga.
The 33-year-old had her life cut short on Wednesday morning. Hopkinson, a nurse at the Brockville General Hospital, was murdered by her domestic partner, who then took his own life.
“Audrey was an incredible woman,” noted Huttinga. “Her infectious laugh and vibrant smile could light up any room.”
She explained it’s a very difficult time for Hopkinson’s family and friends, who are taking it one day at a time and focusing on the well-being of her children.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched in support of Hopkinson’s four-year-old daughter, Brooklynn, and 13-month-old son, Emery. Over $17,000 has been raised in less than 24 hours.
Huttinga says the funds will help the kids transition to their new homes, with close family members, and go towards future education costs for both.
“Audrey’s kindness and generosity touched the hearts of many,’ she noted.
Hopkinson was expecting her third child at the time of her death, Huttinga states on the GoFundMe page.
