Emergency daycare centres for frontline workers opening in Kemptville, Brockville

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville says an emergency daycare centre is up and running in Kemptville and a second will be opening within a week.

Kampus Kids Early Learning Centre in Brockville and the Kemptville Area Family Resource Centre (South Branch Child Care Centre) will serve frontline healthcare workers and emergency first responders, including paramedics, police and firefighters.

Alison Tutak, Director of Community & Social Services, says the child care providers are working closely with the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit to develop and implement appropriate infection control protocols.

She noted demand for this specialized child care is unknown and difficult to predict, but if demand exceeds the spaces available, the counties will look at expanding based on Ministry approval.

Licensed child care services will be available at no cost to families, funded by the province, for children under the age of 12, according to the counties. Services will operate from 6:00am to 9:00pm, seven days a week.

The two sites were selected based on proximity to hospitals, concentrated residential areas, ability to quickly increase the number of program rooms and the availability of both interior and exterior space to ensure physical distancing of children.

Only essential and critical service workers are eligible for emergency child care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications can be made through the counties.
