Birthday bash nets dollars for kids to play hockey

Two birthday parties, two brothers and one great cause.

Matty and Liam Avery think that everyone should get the chance to play hockey. Which is why the pair asked for donations instead of gifts at their parties, held in October and February at the North Grenville Municipal Centre.

A total of $740 was raised for the Adam Harlow Fellowship Fund, which covers the cost for kids in need to play hockey. The fund was established in honour of its namesake, who died tragically at the age of 10. Hockey was the greatest passion of Adam’s short life.

Matty and Liam say birthdays are about having fun with your friends, not toys. The boys each invited their whole class, daycare friends and hockey teams to the rink and Kemptville 73’s players showed up to join in the fun.

Matty and Liam say they were the best birthday parties ever and it was exciting to meet the players and skate with them.

The brothers plan on doing the same thing for their next birthdays.

Matty and Liam noted they are grateful for all their friends and family who came to the parties and contributed to the cause.
