Mayor Todd declares State of Emergency

The Town of Prescott has declared a State of Emergency.

Mayor Brett Todd says it is not to cause further alarm but to allow the municipality additional powers to protect the health and safety of residents.  The State of Emergency was called to raise public awareness of the severity of the COVID-19 Pandemic, to preserve the rights of the town for future support should it become available and make sure officials can respond to any unexpected events.

Todd says, “I am very proud of the number of Prescott residents that have been taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously and are practicing social distancing and isolation as necessary, and just staying home. But I am concerned about the minority of citizens who are not following guidelines to flatten the curve and stop the spread. I am also concerned about the impact to us as a regional hub and as a border community now that we have significant numbers of travellers returning home to Canada. I am making this declaration not to further any sense of alarm but as a rallying call to show all residents in Prescott and the region that we are doing all we can for health and security during this challenging time. Take care everyone and do all you can to look after one another as we are all in this together.”

Todd says residents do not need to take any further action but are asked to do the following:

  • Check official resources for COVID-19 updates (bottom of this page);
  • Practice social distancing to help control the spread of the virus;
  • Follow recommended measures to control the spread of the virus (such as washing hands frequently).
