Flying Canoe up and running in Spencerville

The community now boasts its own cidery. Flying Canoe Hard Cider is up and running in Spencerville.

Owner Pete Rainville says work wrapped up on the MacKintosh Cider House earlier this month. He noted capacity will be up to around 6,000 litres on the production floor in the next two weeks. Rainville explained that’s double the amount at the company’s Ottawa site, which remains operational until Flying Canoe can fully transition to Spencerville.

He says the business is well on its way there, but he needs to ensure the MacKintosh Cider House can handle the summer volume. Rainville noted the plan is to continue growing the business and hire a couple people in the coming months.

He explained the plan is to give back to the community as much as possible, which is a family philosophy. Rainville says he wants to show his sons that you can run a business efficiently, with the environment in mind, and still give back to your community. He noted Spencerville is a hidden gem, full of wonderful people.

Flying Canoe, which launched in 2016, is available at over 50 LCBO stores and numerous businesses in the Ottawa area – including most places in Spencerville.

A grand opening is in the works for sometime in May or June.
