$1,000 up for grabs through MyView Film Festival

Youth across eastern Ontario have the chance to put their creative minds to work. The 7th annual MyView Film Festival is underway. McGahey Insurance and Grenville Mutual Insurance have once again teamed up to provide a $1,000 grand prize.

The contest is open to all youth between the ages of 10 and 24. The deadline to submit is May 1, with the awards ceremony tentatively set for June 4.

Rebecca Shams, Health Promoter and MyView Committee member, says entering is simple. She noted all you have to do is make an original video that is five minutes or less, and upload it to myviewfilmfest.ca.

A panel of celebrity judges will select finalists in three age categories: 10-13, 14-17 and 18-24.

Shams explained local youth are encouraged to get out into their communities to look for inspiration. She says there is no shortage of interesting topics to explore and past winners have addressed a variety of topics, from mental well-being and body image to the cost of post-secondary education and everything in between.

Shams noted the community youth engagement initiative is about encouraging young people to have their voices heard. A lot of weight is put on the content and message, according to Shams, and the judges are really interested in what youth have to say.
