Limerick Forest hosting free Doors Open event

The public is invited to come check out Limerick Forest. A Doors Open event, hosted by the Friends of Limerick Forest, is set for March 8. It runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Geoff McVey, Forest Manager, says there is no cost and everyone is welcome. He noted horse-drawn wagon rides, displays and hiking are all on the agenda. McVey explained refreshments, including hot dogs and hot chocolate, will be available.

Over 600 people dropped by during last year’s Doors Open event.

McVey says there’s a lot to see, including new trails designed with young kids in mind. He noted the goal is to promote the forest and get the word out about all it has to offer. McVey explained recreation opportunities are boundless, ranging from skiing to dirt biking.

Another Doors Open event is in the works for the fall to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Limerick Forest.

McVey says it’s a big year for the forest, which strives to get people outside and enjoying nature.

The Limerick Forest Interpretive Centre is located at 1175 Limerick Road. For more information about Limerick, click here.
