Radio host sleeping in barn to raise funds for Big Sky Ranch

The second annual Heat the Barn radiothon is coming up. Coast FM’s own Chris Walker will spend the night in a barn at Big Sky Ranch Animal Sanctuary to raise funds and awareness. The event is set for February 21 and every dollar will go to the local shelter. Heat the Barn brought in $4,100 last year.

Brewed Awakenings in Kemptville is partnering with the radio station again this year. The coffee shop is offering any size coffee or tea for $2 that day, with all proceeds going to Heat the Barn.

Donations can be made in person at Brewed Awakenings, from 7:00am to 7:00pm, or online by clicking here

Andy Parent, Big Sky Ranch Founder, says the rescue is currently housing 127 animals and over 100 rely on the barns to stay warm in the winter. He noted a typical heating bill for a single month in the winter is around $1,200. Parent explained that Heat the Barn made a big difference last year.

He says Walker will be sleeping in a stall, on a hay bale bed, complete with a surprise roommate. He noted the animal likes to talk, so the pair should get along swimmingly.
