ETFO strikes to impact local schools on Wednesday, Thursday

The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) is escalating its rotating strikes.

Talks between the province and union broke down on Friday.

The ETFO, which represents 83,000 elementary public school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals across the province, has been without a contract since August 31.

The union announced plans to hold one-day strikes every day this week, including a province-wide walkout on Thursday, to put pressure on the government.

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) will be impacted on Wednesday and Thursday. The board says there will be no classes or transportation for students in kindergarten to grade eight.

The UCDSB is encouraging parents and guardians to have alternative child care plans in place. Classes for students in grades nine to 12 will not be impacted.
