Catholic teachers’ union set to strike on Tuesday

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) is planning another one-day strike. The union has announced a province-wide full withdrawal of services on Tuesday, February 4.

The OECTA says teachers in publicly funded Catholic school boards will not be reporting to work or performing any of their duties. The union, representing 45,000 members across Ontario, noted contract negotiations with the province have stalled.

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) sent out a notice advising that all schools will be closed on Tuesday. The board is encouraging parents and guardians to have alternate childcare plans in place.

The OECTA represents over 857 teachers, or 59% of the CDSBEO workforce.
