BGH keeping finger on the pulse of coronavirus outbreak

The Brockville General Hospital (BGH) is taking precautionary measures in the wake of the emerging Wuhan novel coronavirus.

Nick Vlacholias, President and CEO, says the hospital is receiving regular updates from the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit and Ministry of Health.

“To protect all of our patients and staff, we are also working with our health system partners to determine how we can best screen, assess, test and treat patients who are suspected of having the coronavirus,” noted Vlacholias.

The BGH is working closely with officials to adhere to new directives and discussions are on-going following two cases reported in Ontario.

Any patients or visitors with a cough, shortness of breath and fever are asked to practice hand hygiene and wear a surgical mask. Patients coming into the Emergency Department are also being screened for travel history.

Vlacholias says if you’re sick, come to the hospital, but take the necessary precautions. He noted if you have concerns, notify your doctor or a staff member.

“As always, our staff, physicians and volunteers are here to help” explained Vlacholias. “They are working incredibly hard to keep everyone safe. We ask the public for their patience and support as we navigate this situation together.”
