Two transports collide on 401, killing Quebec man

One man is dead following a fatal collision on the 401 last night.

OPP officers were responding to reports of a disabled transport truck partially blocking a live lane eastbound on the highway in Elizabethtown Township just before 6:30pm.

As an officer approached the location, a collision was observed. The stationary transport was struck by another transport, according to police. Investigation revealed that the driver of the disabled transport was out of the vehicle at the time it was struck.

Officers administered life saving measures until EMS arrived, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 55-year-old Bernard Perreault of Frampton, Quebec.

A 63-year-old from Toronto was charged with careless driving causing death. Both eastbound lanes of the 401 were shut down for several hours and have since reopened.
