Get your flu shot: BGH Infection Control Coordinator

The Brockville General Hospital (BGH) is reminding people to protect themselves against influenza.

Dana Finnegan-Yee, Infection Control Coordinator at BGH, says its important for everyone to get their flu shot. She noted the very young and elderly are most at risk, but influenza can impact anyone.

Finnegan-Yee explained symptoms of the flu include fever or chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue.

The BGH sees between 25 and 30 confirmed cases of influenza annually, according to Finnegan-Yee. She says the flu season runs from November until April and the illness typically lasts about a week.

Finnegan-Yee noted proper hand hygiene routinely is another way to protect yourself from influenza. She explained if you’re not feeling well, don’t visit loved ones and go to the Emergency Department if you require treatment.

The flu shot is free and available at participating pharmacies and from your doctor.
