Local hospitals get $2.9 million boost

Three area hospitals got a boost from the province. MPP Steve Clark was in Kemptville today to announce $2.9 million in funding for the Kemptville District Hospital (KDH), Brockville General Hospital (BGH) and Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.

The funding is through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund. KDH will receive $789,000 and BGH is getting $1.9 million. Perth and Smiths Falls will see $298,000 for infrastructure upgrades.

Clark says these funds will ensure patients receive the high quality care they deserve in a safe environment. He noted keeping these buildings in good working order is also essential for healthcare workers, whose jobs are already demanding enough.

Frank Vassallo, KDH CEO, says the funds will go towards boiler room repairs, fire protection upgrades and new windows.

BGH will be putting the dollars towards enhancing exterior lighting, improving heating and cooling, along with upgrades to the nurse call centre. The Perth and Smiths Hospital plans on using the funds to replace the doors at the Perth site, install new floor and repair the roof.
