Famous love story to hit Prescott stage

A one night only performance will benefit the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival. I Take Your Hand in Mine hits the stage in Prescott on December 7. The play is being held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, beginning at 7:00pm.

The true story chronicles the love letters of Anton Chekhov and Olga Knipper – a famous playwright and leading actress of the Moscow Art Theatre.

Artistic Director Richard Sheridan Willis says the pair wrote nearly every day, providing a wonderful record of the ins and outs of their daily lives spent apart.

He noted the play is a co-production between Toronto’s The Chekhov Collective, a company founded by Rena Polley, and Theatrus, a performance art company created by recent Russian émigrées Dmitry Zhukovsky and Yulia Rubina.

Willis explained the play is stopping in Prescott between performances in Toronto and Washington. He says he wanted to bring it to Prescott because he thought people would be interested in the story.
