J and T Taxi is offering a new service in Prescott. The local business is providing free rides to and from the South Grenville Food Bank. The service is available from Tuesday to Friday.

Owner Troy Thompson says he launched the initiative two weeks ago. He noted four people have used the service so far. Thompson explained he decided to help out after hearing a presentation by the food bank’s executive director Bonnie Pidgeon Cougler.

He says anyone in need can simply call J and T for a lift. The number is 613-975-1110.

Cougler says transportation is a serious issue in rural communities and many people are faced with no way to access the food bank. She noted the food bank is grateful to local taxi companies for helping out. Cougler explained the food bank received vouchers from Fort Town Taxi in 2018 to help clients in need.

She says it’s the generosity of individuals and businesses that make the community a better place to live.

The Food Bank serves roughly 1,000 people in Prescott, Augusta Township and Edwardsburgh/Cardinal. Nearly 40% of clients are children under 16.
