Donations being stolen from House of Lazarus

The House of Lazarus (HOL) is experiencing a rash of thefts.

Executive Director Cathy Ashby says donations are being stolen several times a week. She noted the HOL, which operates thrift stores to support its food bank and outreach programs, installed a new security system. Ashby explained the new cameras have made the extent of the problem clear.

She says it’s upsetting because the HOL is respectful of the fact people are trying to help people in need by dropping off household goods and clothing.

Ashby noted it’s not just clients from the HOL who rely on those donations. She explained the South Grenville Food Bank and Community Food Share also send their clients to the thrift stores for the things they need. Ashby says if people need household goods, furniture or clothing, all they have to do is stop by and have a conversation. She noted the HOL is more than willing to give people what they need.

Ashby explained food bank usage grew by 14% last year. The HOL Food Bank fed nearly 700 people and helped thousands more through its outreach programs. For more information about the HOL, click here
