Fleeing suspect hits OPP cruiser twice

An OPP officer was injured over the weekend. The incident happened on Saturday morning, near Maitland. Officers were following a vehicle westbound on the 401 as part of an investigation. The suspect’s vehicle collided with a marked cruiser and fled the scene.

A short time later, the suspect hit the same cruiser and a passenger vehicle, according to police. The two occupants of the passenger vehicle, the suspect and officer were taken to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.    

A 21-year-old Mississauga man is facing several charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer, driving while impaired and possession of a schedule 1 substance. 

County Road 15 was closed for approximately seven hours. OPP East Region Technical Collision Investigators assisted with the investigation.
