Leeds and Grenville stays true to blue

Unofficial results are in. Conservative incumbent Michael Barrett held on to the MP seat in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. The polls closed at 9:30pm.

Barrett was first elected MP in the federal byelection last year, following the sudden death of Gord Brown. The riding has been a Conservative stronghold since 2004.

Barrett says he is thrilled with the results. He noted he’s spent the last 10 months meeting with municipal officials and working with MPP Steve Clark, to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to priorities for the riding. Barrett explained infrastructure funding and broadband coverage are top of mind.

He says he’s excited to get back to work for the community and remind the government that rural Canada matters.

Prior to his election to the House of Commons, Barrett served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Telecommunication Lineman.

Following his military service, Barrett worked in the private sector as a human resources manager and served as a municipal councillor in Edwardsburgh/Cardinal. Barrett lives in Spencerville with his wife Amanda and their four kids.
