Funding announced for local hospitals

The Brockville General Hospital (BGH) is one of the local hospitals that will be receiving funding from the province.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark announced yesterday that $5.5 million in new funding will be going to BGH. Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital will see $1.26 million and Kemptville and District Hospital will be getting $158,000.

Clark says Ontario is taking further action to end hallway health care by making increased investments in the province’s hospitals.

“This new investment is another example of how Ontario is supporting high-quality and timely access to health services, while delivering on our commitment to end hallway health care.”

The investments aim to help make sure families in Leeds and Grenville continue to have access to high-quality care, address sector challenges and previous funding model inequities, promote sustainability of the hospital operations and protect existing core services in communities across Ontario, according to Clark’s office.

Board of Directors Chair for BGH Jim Cooper says the funding model for medium size hospitals has made it challenging for hospital operations at BGH for a number of years. He commended the work done by people at BGH and President and CEO Nick Vlacholias for bringing a report to the government.

“The Province appreciated the accuracy of this report and they acted. This isn’t just BGH, this inequity has been shared by many hospitals across Ontario”

Cooper says this investment shows that the Ministry of Health and MPP Steve Clark values the hard work of people at the hospital and are committed to healthcare in Leeds Grenville.
