With the federal election coming up, Elections Canada wants you to be prepared when going to vote.
Regional Media Adviser Rejean Grenier says if you don’t receive a Voter Information Card, you should go to the Elections Canada website to see if you’re registered. Grenier says it could be for a number of reasons including if you’ve moved. He says soon there will be a guide sent to every address in Canada which will tell you if you’re not registered. Advance polls run from October 11th to the 14th from 9:00am to 9:00pm each day. Election Day is on October 21st and polls are open from 9:30am to 9:30pm. Grenier says make sure to bring a piece of identification when voting. He says you can either bring one piece of identification that is government issued with a photo, your name and address or bring two pieces of ID, one with your name and one with your name and address like a hydro bill.
Grenier says there are over 84,500 registered voters in the Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes riding. In the 2018 by-election, there were over 81,400 registered voters and over 29,000 ballots were cast. In the 2015 election, there were over 79,600 registered voters and over 56,600 ballots were cast.
Grenier says there will be 208 polling stations in 53 polling divisions in the riding.
