Augusta Fire Rescue holding station grand opening next weekend

If you want to get a look inside Augusta’s new fire department, Sunday October sixth is your chance.

The crew will be holding a grand opening/open house event that day. Fire Chief Rob Bowman says the event runs from 12 to four with a ribbon cutting ceremony and speeches at 12:30.

“We’re going to have some trucks on display. Our equipment’s on display of course people are going to be able to take tours of our new station. And because it’s Fire Prevention Week, we’re also going to have some Fire Prevention Week activities as well.”

Bowman says Fire Prevention Week’s theme is “not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape.”

Bowman added it feels really good to be holding this grand opening.

“We’re really excited. Augusta’s new station ensures the safety and health of all of our firefighters through having access to showers, a small fitness facility and specialized laundry facilities to clean contaminated bunker gear and as well as more storage and equipment maintenance areas.”

Bowman says the new building was built to post disaster destruction standards that way if disasters happen like an earthquake or tornado, the facility can still operate. He says they built the building to allow for growth and continue to protect Augusta residents for the next 50 years.

Right now there are 43 members in Augusta’s Fire Rescue team.

Augusta Fire Rescue Station #1 is located at 19 Church Street in Maitland.
