Working group announces $1.4-million raised for Prescott’s new arena

More than $1.4-million has been raised for Prescott’s new arena.

At last night’s Council meeting, Arena Fundraising Working Group Co-Chair David Beatty says so far they have been able to raise $1.45-million. Beatty explains the pledges are contingent on receiving infrastructure matching grants. He says they are extremely grateful for the enthusiastic response. Beatty added they’ve changed the fundraising goal to $3-million instead of the original goal of $3.5-million.

He says they’ve also changed plans from a single pad to twin pad potential. He explains this means there may be a need for the twin pad in the future and after speaking with the Mayor and CAO, architects say they can definitely plan for that and there is little additional costs for infrastructure.

Beatty says they have had a phenomenal response from donors. One local family and area foundation have committed half a million dollars each. One prospect has committed $250,000, a local business has committed $150,000, the Row has brought in over $30,000 and there have been other various donations, according to Beatty.

Beatty added they intend to meet with the new Infrastructure Minister before the end of October and hand deliver Prescott’s application for the recreation infrastructure funding. He says they expect to hear an answer about the application before the end of January 2020.

At the meeting, Council also appointed Scott Hubbard, Alan Joudoin, Justin Kirkby, Brent McAllister and Heather Mackay to the Arena Fundraising Working Group.
