Cop clipped, driver charged

Grenville County OPP is reminding drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles. The move follows an incident that happened on Wednesday.

An officer was conducting a traffic stop on County Road 43, in Wolford Township, when a passing motorist failed to slow down, clipping the officer with the passenger mirror.

The officer was uninjured.

The driver was charged with Fail to Move Over. The Move Over Law was enacted in Ontario in 2003 to protect emergency services personnel who respond to incidents on the side of the road. It requires drivers to leave a lane of space between their vehicle and emergency vehicles if it’s safe to do so. A first offence carries a fine of up to $2,000 and three demerit points.
