Area warrior participating in Neon Night for first time

Lily Cheverton dreams of becoming a ballerina/singer when she grows up. The four-year-old is participating in the Neon Night Fun Run for the first time. Lily was diagnosed with leukemia just before Christmas in 2017.

Jessica Coughlan, Lily’s mom, says she had to take steroids for the first 30 days and undergo intense chemotherapy. She noted Lily lost her ability to walk. Coughlan says she taught herself to walk again in time to go Easter egg hunting.

Lily is cancer free, but still in treatment. Coughlan says CHEO has been their second home since Lily’s diagnosis. Her estimated end of treatment date is April 2020.

Coughlan says for Lily’s birthday, she asked for donations to Neon Night. Lily noted she also got some books from her friends and family.

Neon Night is being held at Riverside Park in Kemptville on Saturday, starting at 6:00pm. The event has brought in $352,000 for childhood cancer research over the past five years. The goal is $90,000 this year.
