Take Back the Night happening in Kemptville

A march to protest sexual violence is being held in Kemptville. Take Back the Night is set for September 19 at Rotary Park. The event, organized by the Anti-Violence Coalition of Leeds and Grenville, kicks off at 6:00pm.

Coordinator Kathy-Ann Laman says the rally will start at 6:30pm. She noted there will be speeches and survivor stories, followed by the 2.1 kilometer march at 7:00pm.

Take Back the Night started in Canada back in 1978. This will be the first time its held in Kemptville.

Laman says everyone is welcome to participate. She explained people can bring their own sign or make one at the event. Laman says the signs can say things like ‘we have the right to not be scared at night,’ ‘claim our bodies, claim our right – take a stand, take back the night’ and ‘sexual violence has got to go.’
