$5.4 million boost for tourism

The province is investing $5.4 million in culture and tourism attractions. Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Lisa MacLeod was at the Tall Ships Festival on Friday to make the announcement.

The investment includes more than $4.8 million in capital repairs to the St. Lawrence Parks Commission and $680,000 to bring the tall ships to Brockville and to male the Big River Festival possible.

MacLeod says the dollars will ensure that Brockville’s tourism industry remains strong and vibrant.

“We really do have the world in one province and our government for the people is making sure that attractions and sites across the province showcase the great things Ontario has to offer to our country and the world,” she noted.

MPP Steve Clark and Mayor Jason Baker joined MacLeod for the announcement.

“I’m pleased that our government recognizes the important role tourism plays in the economy of Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes,” says Clark. “The retail, food service and accommodation industry alone supports more than 9,200 jobs and over half of the businesses in our riding are tourism related.”
