East Region OPP officers had a busy long weekend. A total of 1,885 traffic-related charges were laid. The majority (1,280) were for speeding. Other tickets doled out include stunt driving (30), impaired by drugs or alcohol (26), distracted driving (38) and not wearing seat belts (65).
OPP Manager of Traffic and Marine Programs Paul Bedard says there is no excuse for being impaired behind the wheel.
“You are putting your own life, those in your vehicle and everyone near you on the road in danger,” he noted.
Bedard says impaired driving and distracted driving continue to be a major concern for the OPP in East Region.
If you see dangerous driving or suspect a driver of being impaired, call 9-1-1 immediately.
