Protocol pellet plant still without a deal in Prescott

Talks are still ongoing for the Protocol pellet plant, but the agreement signing has been delayed once again. Friday’s deadline for signing came and went without a deal, but Prescott Mayor Brett Todd says it’s still on the table. The proposed land sale will bring a $73-million dollar wood pellet manufacturing facility to a property north of the 401.

Officials at the Protocol wood pellet plant are hoping to come to an agreement with the Town of Prescott this spring. They want to develop the proposed site and begin manufacturing wood pellets for delivery by mid-2017. The project is expected to bring 60 full-time jobs to the area as well as secondary jobs in forestry and trucking.

The complicated project has had to clear over a dozen provincial requirements and servicing agreements. Prescott Mayor Brett Todd says talks are ongoing but details cannot be released as they are confidential.
