KYC Book Fair brings in over $10,000

The Kemptville Youth Centre has the funds to cover its mortgage payments this year thanks to local book lovers. The annual Book Fair, held at the Ferguson Forest Centre, brought in over $10,000 for the organization. Thousands of people made it out to the event this past weekend.

Operations Manager Barb Tobin says the numbers are still being crunched and sponsorship could bring the total up to around $14,000. She noted the leftover literature is going to World Books, which distributes them to Third World Countries.

The KYC, which offers free programming and a safe space for youth between the ages of 12 and 18, relies on donations to keep its doors open.

Tobin says the KYC’s annual budget is just shy of $200,000. She explained the organization doesn’t get funding from the government, so fundraising events are essential.
