Spencerville optimist club holding fundraiser dinner

A local club will be holding a dinner and auction event to support local youth.

The Spencerville and District Optimist Club will be holding their first annual dinner and auction fundraiser event on October fifth. Fundraising Chair Larry Harper says it will take place in the Drummond Building. He says it is a sit down dinner that will be catered by the hospitality and hotel management group from South Grenville District High School. Harper says there will be a live and silent auction at the event with around 300 items up for grabs.

Harper says 100-percent of the proceeds from the event will be going towards local youth as the club is made up of volunteers. President of the club Sheldon Gill says the money is used for various things like bursaries and this year they’ve supported someone to go over to Africa to work.

“Every nickel that we make goes back to the community. There is nothing that is saved by the optimist club or anybody that is being paid there.”

Harper adds if you are running a youth program and need assistance feel free to get in contact with the club for help.

Tickets for the event are $30 and can be purchased through Gill and Harper by calling 613-340-3833. The Drummond Building is located on Ryan Street in Spencerville.
